experience whenever I embark on a new read by her Will it be as good as past novels Can she really deliver something so funny again Etc etc So it is with the greatest delight and relief that I can say this is Lindsey s best ever novel In Case You Missed It perfectly blends comical high jinks and hilarity with true authenticity This book is a magical mixture of everything you want a fun and light hearted fiction to be with deeper moments of thought provoking honesty The book follows thirty something Ros who returns home to the U.K after living and working in America for a few years Things didn t quite work out as Ros had hoped stateside so she desperately tries to cling to the familiarity of her past twenty something lifestyle and reconnects with her ex boyfriend Patrick he who broke her heart just before she left for the U.S.A And so the book follows Ros as she tries to make sense of things Tries to find what it is in life that truly makes her happy And this could sound like a pretty run of the mill book but it is the depth of characterisation of Ros that really makes this novel shine She is one of the most realistic characters you ll ever read about in this genre Kelk has freely admitted on social media that she mined her own personal life experience for this novel and I believe you can truly tell Because there s so much here that is entirely relatable Ros self doubts and struggles are the self doubts and struggles of many of us in our quest to find what it is that will make us happy in life or indeed our search for The One Ros is an unflinchingly honest character and her connection with Patrick is one that will really get you in the feels, especially if you ve had a similar relationship in your past Theirs isn t the most equal of relationships and without wishing to spoil too much of the plot it will have you feeling frustrated, sad, mad etc because as a reader you can see the ways that Ros is twisting herself trying to be what she feels is someone worthy of his love As ever with a Lindsey Kelk book there are a wonderful cast of supporting characters in the form of Ros best friends circle of Sumi, Adrian, and Lucy Each is well differentiated and bring their own unique mini sub plot which truly adds to the enjoyment of the book Sumi was my personal favourite I loved that she had this no nonsense exterior but with the softest core for her loved ones I really just want to be her best friend I also was a big fan of Ros work related podcast storyline because it not only introduced us to possibly the best named character ever i.e the teenage YouTube star Snazzlechuff, but also to his agent babysitter Veronica whom I adored Veronica is supremely confident, snarky, and incredibly smart, and basically steals every scene she s in LOVE HER Ros parents also feature heavily in the novel as Ros is forced to move back in with themoraccurately into the shed at the bottom of their garden They provide much of the comedy of the storyline and I almost always was in stitches laughing whenever they appeared on the page Ros mum also happened to appear in my favourite scene from the book when she and Ros had a truly honest heart to heart about what being in love with another person truly means tears rolled freely down my face reading that, ALL of the feels And for those of us who are here for a dashing male character to make us swoon over Well that s provided in the form of John I loved the way he and Ros had this instant yet slow burn connection I know Instant and slow burn at once doesn t seem possible And yet that s exactly what Kelk delivered And as a cherry on top this book is sprinkled with great moments of patriarchy bashing, challenges to the narrow minded nature of heteronormativity and sparkling moments of childhood nostalgia for those of us of a certain age hello groovy chick merchandise I highly recommend this to fans of comedic fiction who like their books to have an overarching romantic themeAn e copy of this book I ve read by this author and it will be the last. Thanks to Netgalley for an ARC Oof this book hits close to home and because of that of course it is amazing Lindsey Kelk has been making me laugh for over 10 years now and she continued to do so with this latest novel believe me that is a big accomplishment in the climate we re living in right now I loved this book from start to finish and I think everyone should read it Ros is fab and is so easy to relate to She finds herself moving back in with her parents after starting off a new life in Washington I really felt for Oof this book hits in with her parents after starting off a new life in Washington I really felt for her having to do this and going back knowing there would be questions, I can literally still feel her pain now but thankfully she has an amazing group of friends who are there to cushion the blow I loved Ros s friendship group and they represent a fairly typical friendship group for me, I really felt like they could have been my friends Lucy is about to have a baby and brings all the fun and games involved with that Adrian is single and really doesn t have a clue about how real people live since he seems to be stinking rich and then there is Sumi, I love her and she and Jenny Lopez could totally take over the world Sumi almost has it all and the things she doesn t have yet, she is on her way to conquering just fab Of course we have some love interest options in this book and I absolutely fell head over heels in love with bar wonder John He is so generous and understanding and funny and helpful and we all need him in our lives Then there is the love interest we love to hate and oh my goodness I hated him so much Bravo to Lindsey Kelk for writing an amazing villain Ros is lucky enough to land a new job for a podcast production company and this is where we get to another thing that this author does so well, her books are always up to date and relevant and real with interesting and exciting corners of the internet and the job market in general We cover Esports and a YouTube gamer child star with the best character name ever I do feel like this name was inspired by the movie Cats I have to say But all of this is the reality of the market we live in, podcasts are massive and child YouTube billionaires are a real thing and so I loved reading about them in this novel. The cast of characters in this novel is also wonderfully relevant and diverse and I love that Lindsey Kelk is doing what is often missing in modern romcom We have characters who are non white and non straight, older characters enjoying a full sex life the representation in this novel is just on point and this is what elevates it from being a good novel to be a great novel and one you should definitely all read I ve just spent the most wonderful afternoon, devouring this wonderful new book from Lindsey Kelk I absolutely adore this author and it is always a treat to be able to delve into her latest book And this was no exception, from the moment we see that Ros who has moved back to her parents after a few years in Washington, has had her bedroom relocated, you knew you were in for an amusing read For they have set her up in a shed in the garden for her and their privacy Not only is it her bedroom I ve just spent the most wonderful afternoon, devouring this wonderful new book from Lindsey Kelk but its her bedroom from the 90s, so plenty of nostalgia there Actually her parents are hilarious, there is a scene with sushi that let s just say you wouldn t want it to be your own parents but for other people its very funny Ros is determined to live in the past and isn t that keen on change, so when she accidentally gets in contact with her ex, and they get together, she is very happy to pick things up where they left off I wasn t keen on that man at all I loved her friendship group, all really distinct personalities and had their own things going on that were interesting to follow And her new job, well that s different, I d never given podcasts much thought but Ros was working on one, and for a child gaming YouTube star which is rather amusing This has all of Lindsey Kelks trademark humour in the book, some romance, loads of great situations I loved the roller skating, and the walled garden and also the dark disc which are all really great scenes It s a story that has it all and that I absolutely adored reading Another hit from one of my all time favourite authors Thank you to Harper Collins and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily This was a rare beast a chick lit with quality, well drawn characters, wit and a little pathos that was just enough to make me think and question what I d do, if I d want to go back and recreate that time that I think I loved Funnily enough I ve read a gazillion second chance romance stories where the couple do get back in touch after being wrenched apart, they work to overcome whatever deeply held hostility do get back in touch after being wrenched apart, they work to overcome whatever deeply held hostility misunderstanding had got in between them and discover they were destined to be together after all so it made a really refreshing change to experience a totally different take on that trope Just trying to recreate a perfect night out by doing it all again has never gone that well for me so I get it I have to say this story kind of resonated with me memory believes before knowing remembers as William Faulkener put it.This wasn t just about Ros s love life though, I absolutely nloved her relationship with her friends and her family too It was warm and uplifting to read and just genuinely funny, I had such a good time escaping into this book, I struggled to put it down I haven t read this author before but I enjoyed this one so much I m going in search ofby her A fab , undemanding and warm read Recommended.I Thanks to the publishers via netgalley for my arc Firstly thank you to character is Ros After living and working in Washington DC she finds herself abruptly uprooting her life and ending up living back at her parents albeit not in the house , back at whatever the square before square one is and staring down the barrels of hiding the truth from everyone A mis text gets Ros back in touch with an old flame and nostalgia for how things used to be takes over Ros is a great character to read about She s real, down to earth and you can completely imagine being with her along the way Lindsey writes with a great sarcasm and dry wit and I love how this comes out in her characters Ros restarts her career and although it turns out to be completely different to how she imagined she battles on with a grim determination I loved the portrayal of our sometimes ridiculous modern world and it s place in the story The cast of secondary characters comprise of Ros s friends Suki, Adrian and Lucy their new friend John and Ros s ex Patrick I loved all of the old and new friends but loathed Patrick in the same vein as Suki I loved the support network that Ros had, especially her budding new relationship with John Packed with rollerskating, inappropriately dressed mothers andthan a few mishaps this is definitely the book you should reach for this summer If you haven t read any of Lindsey s books before, now is absolutely your chance *DOWNLOAD E-PUB ↝ In Case friend, John, owner of said swanky bar And to add insult to injury her parents are trying to rekindle the romance sushi will never look the same which is something no 30 something woman ever wants to imagine LOL.I think Lindsey Kelk is underrated, especially by me, I never recognise her name but I loved the previous book of hers that I read We Were On a Break and this equally as charming and funny in that very British way.HIghly recommended.I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review
